Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc.
The Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PRRCFI) is non-stock, non-profit organisation focused on environmental conservation. The foundation manages Danjugan Island, a marine sanctuary and environmental education destination. It is also a top eco-tourism destination in the Philippines, observing a low-impact, low-volume, high-quality and high-value tourism model. It all started in 1991 with the dream to buy the island to save it. With the help of World Land Trust and Land Bank of the Philippines, this dream became a reality. Three decades of conservation work in and around the island has brought about the regeneration of the forests and coral reefs.
Danjugan is a 48-hectare island rich in biodiversity. It has 5 lagoons, white sand beaches, bat caves, lush limestone and mangrove forests and surrounded by vast seagrass beds and fringing coral reefs. Danjugan Island is surrounded by the largest marine protected area in the Southern Negros Marine Key Biodiversity Area (SNMKBA), declared through a municipal ordinance based on scientific assessments done by PRRCFI and Coral Cay Conservation. The island was saved mainly for biodiversity conservation and to transform it into nature’s perfect classroom. Environmental education is one of the strengths of the foundation. Youth Marine and Wildlife Camps were pioneered in 1991 with the hope of transforming today’s youth to become tomorrow’s conservationists. Many of the campers have chosen a path towards conservation and sustainable development, inspired by their experience in Danjugan.

PRRCFI has gone a long way since, heading several environmental programs that focus on biodiversity conservation, nature tourism, science and research, environmental education, solid waste management and zero-waste initiatives.
PRRCFI celebrated its 25th anniversary last August 9, 2019 with the complete members of the Board of Trustees, project and island staff, volunteers and friends of Danjugan at Nature’s Village Hotel in Talisay City.
The event launched “The Danjugan Story”, a coffee table book of beautiful photographs celebrating biodiversity and our conservation work. Weaving the remarkable story of Danjugan are numerous individuals and organizations who have supported the island’s caretaker, the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PRRCFI), celebrating its 25 years of existence and impact to communities of wildlife and people.
